Huntington's Disease Society of America

Huntington's Disease Society of America's mission is to: promote and support research to find a cure for HD; help those affected by the disease and their families; educate the public and health care professionals about HD. The Huntington's Disease Society of America is a national, non-profit, voluntary health agency that is dedicated to finding a cure for HD while providing both vital services to improve the lives of those affected by HD, and support and guidance for HD families through our national network of volunteer-based chapters and affiliates as well as through our newly created Centers of Excellence. Soon after the legendary folk singer, Woody Guthrie, lost his battle with HD, his widow, Marjorie, sought out other families affected by this devastating disease. In 1967, this handful of dedicated volunteers formed the Committee to Combat Huntington's Disease. Today, the Huntington's Disease Society of America (HDSA) continues the mission that Marjorie Guthrie began. HDSA has grown into a national organization consisting of 32 community based volunteer chapters, two national field directors, and a national office that provides leadership, support and guidance to our HD families.
