Waterkeepers Northern California fills the gap between Clean Water Act laws and real enforcement, protecting the health of San Francisco Bay, its tributary streams and major rivers. Waterkeepers' leadership in targeting and stopping pollution has achieved local and national recognition. Advocating for better water quality regulations and working closely with understaffed agencies, Waterkeepers reduces pollution through an innovative program that includes maintaining and improving federal, state, and local standards for water quality protection, conducting investigations that challenge polluters, and working to educate an active and informed public. Waterkeepers takes effective action to stop illegal pollution, dredging, spills, contamination of drinking water, and other incidents that harm the waters belonging to everyone in the Bay region.
